Answer Display Order - Alternate Flip

When conducting research, it is very important to reduce or eliminate any bias that may be introduced due to how the survey is set up. If answer options are always displayed in a particular order, then it may introduce bias when answering. For example, if we are collecting feedback on a negative to positive scale, if the negative option is the first option, then it will introduce a bias with responses. However, if alternatingly, we can show a negative-to-positive and a positive-to-negative scale, this helps eliminate any bias when answering a survey.

Flip option is available for the following question types:

• Multiple Choice Questions
• Matrix Questions

To set the answer options to flip alternatingly,

• Go to: Login » Surveys (select survey) » Edit
• Click on Settings for the question you wish to flip order
• Click on Answer Display Order
• Select the Alternate Flip option.

When enabled, for each respondent, the answer options will be fliped to eliminate bias.

For matrix questions,

• Click on the Settings link for the question.
• Select the Alternate Flip option under Column Display Order

For every alternate respondent, the survey will be offered with the options/order flipped.

For each respondent, all questions will be displayed in the same order. So if you have multiple questions, for the first respondent, the questions will be displayed in the set order. For the next respondent, all questions will be displayed in flipped order. Alternatingly, respondents will see the survey questions in the set order or flipped order.
